FEATURED ARTISTS:
Martha Wood Belcher (1844-1930) was
a landscape painter & educator in
Pittsford. Born in Birmingham, England,
Martha emigrated with her family to
Schenectady, NY. An admirer & patron
supported her studies at Cooper Union
& in Europe. She moved to Vermont to
teach art at Ripley College.
Hilda Belcher (1881-1963) was a
painter, illustrator, & educator
from Pittsford. Hilda is best known
for her watercolors, a medium in
which she was self-taught. She was a
prolific portrait painter in VT, NY &
the deep South. Her mother was
Martha Wood Belcher.
